Three New Leaders Council Tampa Bay Alumni Selected for Leadership Florida
Florida’s Premier Leadership Program Selects Three New Leaders Council Tampa Bay Alumni
Tampa, FL: Today, Leadership Florida announced the members of Leadership Florida Connect, Class IX. Three New Leaders Council (NLC) Tampa Bay alumni were amongst those selected for this prestigious honor: David Hughes, Brandon Ledford, and Jen McDonald.
NLC is a national nonprofit leadership development organization with 50 chapters across the country on a mission to recruit and train emerging progressive leaders from outside traditional power structures and equip them with the skills necessary to shape a more progressive political and cultural landscape. Through its highly selective six-month Institute program, NLC has empowered nearly 7,000 alumni and counting to make a meaningful impact at the local, state, and national levels through running for office, managing campaigns, civic engagement, public policy initiatives, nonprofit and business enterprise.
Leadership Florida Connect is Florida’s only statewide leadership program that spans industry boundaries and focuses solely on developing Florida’s existing and emerging leaders. It is a highly sought-after statewide program for leaders ages 25-39. It is comprised of five sessions over a nine-month period in different locations throughout Florida and each session focuses on key issues and opportunities that are specific to the state. Leadership Florida selects a class of diverse leaders to participate in programming and experiences with the goal of becoming educated, engaged, and inspired to make Florida a better place while forming lifetime connections and bonds among classmates.
Of the 46 leaders selected from across Florida, 5 were chosen from the West Central region. Of the 5 chosen from the West Central Region, 3 are alumni of NLC Tampa Bay. “The entire NLC Tampa Bay family is incredibly proud of David, Brandon, and Jen for their selection into Leadership Florida,” said James Chan, NLC Tampa Bay Chapter Co-Director and Leadership Florida Connect, Class VII. “The fact that our alumni were 3 of the 5 selected from our region is a testament to the leadership training we provide for our NLC Fellows.” Jamie Klapholz, NLC Tampa Bay Chapter Co-Director, added, “Each Leadership Florida Connect class brings together a diversity of ideas, beliefs, and values. We’re thrilled that David, Brandon, and Jen will be representing a progressive perspective and cannot wait to see how they use the tools provided by NLC to shape a brighter future for Florida.”
David Hughes is an attorney at Hill Ward Henderson in Tampa, Florida where he specializes in the defense of complex medical malpractice claims. David is also active in many charitable, governmental and philanthropic circles in the Tampa Bay area, including board memberships with Men of Vision, the Hillsborough County Health Care Advisory Board, and New Leaders Council Tampa Bay. When not watching the World Cup, he enjoys reading, chess, and cooking, among other hobbies.
Brandon Ledford is the Vice President of Human Capital at MGT Consulting Group. In his role, he leads the Compensation & Classification and Organizational Review practices, ensuring people are paid fairly, equitably, and to the market, and ensuring organizations run well. Brandon is also a rare cancer survivor who volunteers, gives speeches, and raises money for the American Cancer Society and Moffitt Cancer Center. He lives in the Seminole Heights neighborhood of Tampa, FL, with his wife, Kate, newborn daughter, Charlotte, and dog, Zelda.
Jen McDonald is the Vice President of Merchant Insurance Solutions where she works with entrepreneurs and small business owners on risk management and insurance solutions for their businesses. She enjoys serving the Tampa community through her many organizational involvements. She is passionate about helping people connect so they may work together to meet their goals. She can be found riding her bicycle around town with her 2 Yorkies in the basket.
The NLC Institute is the leading training program for progressive young professionals. NLC equips its Fellows with the skills to run for office, manage campaigns, launch businesses, create startups, and develop innovative public policy. The NLC Institute is an intensive, six-month progressive entrepreneurship training program. Applications for the 2019 New Leaders Council cohort are now available HERE and are due October 1, 2018.
